Lockheed Martin 战斗机系统(LMTAS)公司正使用先进的、基于激光的超声检测设备详细检验组合零件,如大型油箱以及F-22飞机和联合攻击战斗机(JSF)的集装组件等.最近利用LMTAS公司工程师研制并获专利权的激光超声技术对早期研制的X-33航天器油箱进行了成像检验.该油箱是经过NASA(美国航空航天管理局)70多次低温循环试验之后拿来检测的.X-33是为提出冒险星球火箭发射航天器(VentureStarRLV)而研制的航天器,它是先进工艺技术的示范演示器,若这个项目早些时候研制的储液氢箱不失败的话,初步飞行试验计划于2000年开始.
