Written in front: the pace of the times irresistible. In the information age, the Internet is quietly “infiltrating” into the traditional industries in various fields, and the publishing industry is no different. In the past three or four years, the magical profit set by the online novel “Ride-and-Fly” was enough to keep the entire publishing industry excited. Some foreign authorities predict that online publishing sales will account for 6% to 10% of publishing industry by 2005 and 50% by 2020, while by 2030, 90% of books will be “eBooks.” In China, according to CNNIC, as of the beginning of 2003, 59.1 million people have accessed the Internet in China and the monthly growth rate of new Internet users has been between 5% and 6%, ranking among the countries with the most rapid growth in the world. The report also shows that almost half of users will access information as the main purpose of surfing the internet, and there is bound to be ample room for online publishing.
