Service companies expect oil companies to spend more on exploration and development (E & P) this year, in fact the situation will be much better. This is the conclusion of the two leading analysts, Lehman Brothers and Salomon Smith Bamey. Both agree that oil and gas companies will invest more money in North America while investment in the rest of the world will be more cautious. Based on an extensive survey of 320 oil and gas companies, Lehman Brothers’s Survey of Original Investment in Exploration and Development reports that oil companies plan to increase their E & P investment by 10.2% worldwide in 2000.
