在纪念激光诞生三十周年,回顾历史、展望未来之际,西欧这一世界高技术竞争中的强手是不可忽视的。本文简要地回顾西欧对此领域发展的贡献,介绍其发展概况,分析其发展特点,以示纪念。一、贡献作为资本主义发源地和工业革命摇篮的西欧,具有雄厚的经济实力和先进的科学技术。本世纪50～60年代经济和科学技术曾处于领先地位,曾有“欧洲发明,美国制造,日本推广”一说。在激光研究与应用的某些领域也不例外。在此领域西欧人一直引以为自豪的有下列一些事实:
In commemorating the thirtieth anniversary of the birth of lasers, and recalling history and looking forward to the future, Western Europe is a strong player in the world’s high-tech competition that cannot be ignored. This article briefly reviews the contribution of Western Europe to the development of this field, introduces its development overview, and analyzes its development characteristics as a sign of commemoration. I. Contribution Western Europe, which is the birthplace of capitalism and the cradle of the industrial revolution, has strong economic strength and advanced science and technology. In the 50th and 60th centuries this century, the economy and science and technology were once in a leading position. They once had “European inventions, American manufacturing, and Japanese promotion.” In some areas of laser research and application is no exception. Western Europeans have been proud of this area in the following facts:
