中国人,特别是汉族,历来都十分重视自己的姓氏,没有非常特殊的原因是不会改变的。但考察今天中国的姓氏分布可以发现,人口少的姓往往具有很强的地域性,只存在于某些地区,甚至只有一个地方才有。但人口多的姓却遍布各地,人口最多的几个姓甚至深入少数民族聚居区和海外。不过姓氏刚形成时,一姓一氏只限于具有共同血缘关系的宗族之间,分布范围不可能很广。不同的宗族采用同一姓氏的可能性虽然也存在,但毕竟有限。所以每个氏或姓都有自己的起源地,该姓氏的人口扩展到其他地方主要是迁移的结果。另一方面,汉族及其祖先华夏诸族有慎终追远的传统,只要有可能,
