从2004年12月24日快速公交1号线木樨园-前门段试运营至今,北京市引入国外快速公交系统(Bus Rapid Transit,简称BRT)进入第5个年头。当时参与试运营的是10辆常州客车厂生产的国内第一批依维柯BRT客车。在5公里的路段内试运营一年后,快速公交1号线于2005年12月底全线贯通,全国首条达到国际高载客量水准的BRT线路正式投入使用。
