Scientists at the University of Wageningen in the Netherlands have shown that it is possible to produce more food by cultivating crops that reduce pigment levels that do not contribute to photosynthesis. This conclusion is based on studies of the effects of photosynthesis under different lighting conditions. Scientists have discovered that the color of the leaves is not directly involved in the photosynthesis “light”, it absorbs rather than effectively uses it. Their research is published in the recently published “Plant Cell” magazine.
