According to the latest IDC report, e-mail is facing great challenges from instant messaging, spam and virus attacks. The report said that if e-mail to maintain its dominance as an electronic communication, e-mail solution providers and their users must support the high value of e-mail, and reduce the corresponding costs and risks. “Email is facing challenges from viruses, spam and regulations, its reputation is at stake but its final integrity remains intact,” said Mark Levitt, associate research chair for IDC Collaborative Computing Services, “except for adolescents and E-mail remains the most widely used electronic communication tool outside the fast-reacting work environment. ”IDC noted that in 2006, over 330 billion e-mail messages were spam each day. IDC said the future of e-mail depends on reducing its associated costs and risks while protecting its value through the life cycle it generates and dies. The report states that e-mail can counterattack instant messaging tools by providing businesses or users with low-cost or no-cost access to a variety of devices.
