A quick diagnosis of acute meningococcal infections by needle aspiration or biopsy at skin lesions The authors undertook a retrospective study to assess the value of gram-negative staining and culture of skin lesions in patients with acute meningococcal infections. The study was conducted in 51 patients from 1989 to 1993 who had confirmed meningococcal infection and 26 patients who had aspirated at skin lesions prior to antibiotic treatment.
