The results of a study on women and friendship conducted by Dr. Laura Cousin Klein of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) show that friendship can extend human life. From a new perspective, Dr. Klein found that friendship has a psychological mechanism that helps women cope with stress. Just as it is known that women can release large amounts of oxytocin to relieve stress when they develop a stress response, friendship seems to be related to the relief of the stress response. When women are engaged in nursing activities, they produce more oxytocin and thus act as a buffer, and estrogen seems to enhance the body’s potency. Workers engaged in women’s health care have long been aware of the beneficial impact that friendship has on women’s lives. For the past seven years, the American Nursing Society Women’s Health (NPWA) Clinical Meeting has been dedicated
