Many parents always like to tell their children how special they are and almost everything is child-centered. However, a new study in the Netherlands shows that over-attention by parents can easily lead to narcissism. The study was completed by scientists from the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Ohio State University. The study involved 565 Dutch children aged 7 to 11 years. In a year and a half, the researchers conducted a questionnaire survey on the children and their parents four times. The survey involved parents’ attention to the children, parent-child activities and parent-child relationship. All participating children also underwent an assessment of their level of narcissism and self-esteem.
