According to a recent report by Nature, three European agencies responsible for marine research - the Natural Environment Research Council of England (NERC), the French Institute of Ocean Development (IFREMER) and the German Research, Education and Technology Ministry (BMBF) - Further measures are planned to establish a unified European expedition fleet for joint scientific research programs. This plan represents a major step toward Europe in unifying its maritime research efforts and echoing the plan recently proposed to establish the European Maritime Authority.
