关于西方现代悲剧(Modern Tragedy)的理论是西方现代的悲剧理论的重要组成部分,也是西方悲剧理论史上一个新的有待进一步拓展的领域。19世纪以来,尤其是一次大战以来,社会人生意义上的悲剧已经进入西方人的生活,一度为批评家认为并证明已经死亡的戏剧意义上的悲剧也复兴了起来,现代主义、后现代主义种种戏剧流派或多或少或隐或显呈现出一种向悲剧靠拢的趋势,西方现代悲剧现象的存在为愈来愈多的西方剧作家、批评家和戏剧理论家所肯定。然而,否定现代悲剧存在的诸种观点显然不能视而不见,因为其中涉及到许多重要的悲剧理论问题,尤其是尚无定论的现代悲剧(Modern Tragedy)理论问题。不用说,对否定现代悲剧存在的种种观点不进行一番具
