MAN B & W after the company successfully developed its recently put on the market for TCA series turbochargers 2100kW power more than four-stroke and two-stroke diesel engine, has recently developed a new, less powerful engine for TCR series turbocharger. This series of turbochargers to meet the current and future diesel and gas fuel engine market needs. The new series turbochargers include 6 different sizes, suitable for pulse or constant pressure booster, covering the engine power range of 390kW ~ 5000kW. Scheduled applications include ship propulsion, generator sets, stationary and railway traction engines. Its main development objectives are high efficiency, high pressure ratio, high specific mass flow rate, low weight, small form factor, long life, easy maintenance, safe operation, low product cost and low life cycle cost. To achieve all of these goals, MANB & W must complete a broad development and pilot program to ensure that products meet market needs and have high operational reliability. In addition it has some simulation tools, such as 3D-CFD for aerodynamic analysis of all relevant turbocharger components (computational fluid dynamics program) or for the dynamic simulation of the static and dynamic load calculation FE and a rotor ( Finite Element) method, as a standard to be used in addition to the beginning of the development phase of the first sealed safety calculations. In order to grasp the special needs of customers, after the complicated QFD (Quality Function Development) analysis, the technical requirements of the users are provided. In addition, turbocharger prototypes have also been extensively tested on burner test rigs to verify the expected operating characteristics according to a typical diesel engine performance curve. This article describes the development of the TCR Series Turbocharger and the new opportunities offered by it. In addition, preliminary results obtained through bench tests and engine tests are also presented. These preliminary test results further confirm the main benefits users can expect from this series of turbochargers.
