江口洲是长江枝江段一心滩型江心洲,它由心滩主体和侧伏边滩组成.在对垂向沉积剖面及沙体平面展布规律进行分析的基础上,认为江口洲是由河床底部滞留沉积、心滩、边滩及河漫滩沉积4个微相单元组成,其中心滩沉积和边滩沉积是两个最重要的微相单元,江口洲的非均质性实际上是由边滩和心滩的非均质性两部分构成的。通过野外观察和室内分析,对边滩和心滩沙体的几何形态、规模、夹层的分布形式、沙泥岩的配置关系和层问连通性以及沉积剖面的韵律结构等进行了研究,在此基础上,阐述了边滩和心滩的层间及层内非均质特征。
