IC
The World Trade Organization announced in early May that after a 1% decline in global trade volume in 2001 and a 4% decline in trade volume, the global trade volume in 2002 is forecast to increase by 1%. Experts of the World Trade Organization believe that the reason for the decline in global trade volume in 2001 was that global economic growth continued to weaken. In particular, the economic recession among OECD members led directly to a decline in the volume of trade. Global trade totaled only 6 trillion yuan. The dollar fell by 4% over the previous year. The World Trade Organization attributed the global economic downturn to the “information technology bubble”, the fall in demand in western European countries, and the negative impact caused by the September 11 attacks.
