E. R. Fossum and others at the California Institute of Technology have developed optical networks for the readout of focal plane arrays for NASA’s Jet Push Laboratory. This optical network can transmit analog readout signals from photodetectors in a focal plane array to an external signal processing circuit. The focal structure array of typical structure is made up of infrared detector, the detector works under the condition of low temperature. The thermal load added to cryogenic systems as compared to electronics and other optical networks is small because such networks do not include an electronic amplifier or laser amplification
