1912年10月,正当袁世凯权倾一时,炙手可热时,上海南洋公学校长辜鸿铭用英语写成《中国牛津运动故事》和汉语写成《幕府纪闻》两本书,书中谩骂、讥讽、挖苦袁世凯之文字尖酸泼辣,成为海内外奇谈。 辜鸿铭(1857-1928年)字汤生,祖籍福建,生于南洋,留学欧美十余年,回国后在张之洞幕府做了17年洋文案,后督办黄浦浚治局,担任外务部员外郎、侍郎之职。辜鸿铭恃才傲物,好骂善辩,敢作敢为,是近代学界顶古怪的人物。他对袁世凯卑鄙、龌龊行径尤加痛恨,或借题指骂,或当面奚落,或撰文警醒,深刻而淋漓,触于痛处,有苦难言,兹辑怪骂数则,以飨读者。
