对于英语作为第二语言(L2)的学生来说,词尾辅音的不稳定性(the instability of word-final consonants)被认为是听力中的一个潜在问题。然而,对英语作为第一语言(L1)的听力理解的研究使我们对词尾音在单词认知过程中是否很重要这一问题表示怀疑。为此我们专门进行了一项实验以确定词尾辅音的发音与否是否影响单词辨别。结果发现,词尾辅音是否发音对于被调查人的词汇辨别是否成功没有显著的差别。这一调查结果表明,EFL 学生重视词尾音的练习是他们和第一语言学生都不常使用的方法。
For students of English as a second language (L2), the instability of the word-final consonants is considered as a potential problem in hearing. However, the study of listening comprehension of English as a first language (L1) casts doubt on the question of whether the suffix sounds are important in word recognition. To this end, we conducted an experiment specifically to determine whether the pronunciations of suffixes affect the word recognition. It was found that there was no significant difference in the success or failure of pronoun consonant pronunciations. The findings of this survey show that EFL students’ practice of emphasizing the end-of-note sounds is not often used by both students and first-language students.
