时至今日,看到和吃到的西瓜都是圆的。可近年日本不少经营人员普遍感到圆西瓜虽然光滑惹人喜爱,但占据存放空间大,长途运输和贮藏都不经济,而且圆形西瓜易滚动,易损坏。为了克服几方面的弱点,取得更好的经济效益,经营人员聘请农科人员和瓜发配合,利用事先按一定规格做好的方形模具套住小西瓜,中间经过多次调整和完善,终于使西瓜变成了方形。变形西瓜由于新奇,方便,销路大增,获利可观。
Today, the watermelons seen and eaten are all round.
