连江(又名小北江)发源于湘粤边境的南岭山脉。流经连山、连南、连州、英德、阳山五县(市),是北江最大的支流。解放初期,连江航道枯水期水深不足0.4米,只能通航10吨以下的小木船。为整治连江,1959年至70年代末,广东省人民政府和有关部门在连江上建了11座梯级船闸,使之成为六级航道,通航里程181公里。为此连江成为我国第一条以通航为主,兼灌溉、发电综合利用的山区
Lianjiang (aka Xiaobeijiang) originated from the Nanling Range on the border between Hunan and Guangdong. Flow through the Hill, even the South, Lianzhou, Yingde, Yangshan five counties (cities), is the largest tributary of the North River. In the early days of liberation, the water depth of the Lianjiang Waterway was less than 0.4 meters during the dry season, and only small wooden boats below 10 tons were allowed to sail. In order to rehabilitate Lianjiang, from 1959 to the late 1970s, Guangdong Provincial People’s Government and relevant departments built 11 chain locks on the Lianjiang River, making it a Class 6 waterway with a navigation mileage of 181 kilometers. To this end Lianjiang became China’s first navigation-based, irrigation and power generation in the mountains
