OBJECTIVE: To study the effect of chemical damaged peripheral sympathetic nerve on skin conductance and epidermal gap junction. Methods: Rats and mice were injected intraperitoneally with 6-hydroxydopamine. Skin conductance was measured and electron microscopy histomorphometry was used to study the changes of epidermal gap junction. Results: After 6-hydroxydopamine treatment, the difference of conductance between the bladder and the control skin decreased. The skin conductivity of the mice decreased. The number density, average outer diameter and number density of the epidermal gap junction were all lower than those of the control group. Conclusions: There is a close relationship between catecholamines and epidermal gap junction and skin conductance.
