A novel lubricating oil additive dodecoxyl barium borate was synthesized.The product was characterized by FTIR,elemental analysis,thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA),and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).Four-ball tests showed that the addition of a certain concentration of the additive to rapeseed oil could effectively increase both the load-carrying capacity (P_B value), resistance to wear,and friction-reducing abilities.SEM observations confirmed that the additive could result in a reduced diameter of the wear scar.
