近年来，随着农药、化肥、激素等在农作物上的大量使用，特别是各地食用带毒蔬菜引起人畜中毒事故的发生，使得人们对农产品的食用安全性越来越感到担忧。人们呼唤“无害化”农产品，尤其垂青与人们生活密切相关的“无公害”蔬菜。应该说，无公害蔬菜市场大有发展潜力。
