In the 1960s, urban protection gradually evolved into a social movement and became an important part of urban planning. Based on the sampling of the main historical and cultural blocks in China, this article analyzes the different cognitions of historical authenticity, collective memory and spatial structure of “insiders” and “outsiders”, and at the same time pays attention to the differences between Eastern and Western cultures Similar problems faced by urban landscape protection in the background. In order to protect the city's history and culture more effectively, it is necessary to go beyond the traditional path of functional conservation planning and preserve the history and collective memory of urban landscapes as a public history through culturally sensitive narrative techniques.
