范继森先生(1917-1968)是我国老一辈的杰出钢琴教育家。他出生于南京的一个清寒家庭,早年自学音乐时,常要在夜晚到教堂去借用那里的钢琴练琴。他曾多次为当时在南京学习声乐的郑律成担任钢琴伴奏。1934年范继森考入中国唯一的高等音乐学府——国立音乐专科学校,师从著名的俄籍钢琴教授查哈罗夫主科学习钢琴。范继森学习钢琴的起步很晚,但他在四年的学习生涯里,以惊人的勤奋、智慧和毅力,克服了许多难以想象的困难,取得了优异的学习成绩,并为他日后的钢琴演奏和教学奠定了稳固的基础。1938年起范继森以钢琴独奏或伴奏的身份,活跃在汉口和重庆的各种音乐活动里。他经常参加室内乐演出,并去成都等地旅行演出。1940年他与来自延安的李凌相识,作为音乐界的知名人士,范继森与马思聪、黎国荃等人一起在重庆受到周恩来的接见。1940年初“皖南事变”时,育才学校音乐组主任贺绿汀按照周恩来的指示离开重庆前,拜托范继森等上海音专的校友去该校兼职任教。由著名教育家陶行知创办的这所学校的办学经费非常困难,并被国民常当局视为“重庆的小延安”。范继森等人冒着政治风险,自己掏车船费,定期爬山涉水地去距离重庆百余里外的育才学校免费教学,直至该校迁到
