In the spring of 2001, a pile of caves known as Jinpen Cave, rich in vertebrate fossils, was found in Shijie Town, Wuhu, Anhui Province. In the autumn of the following year, a one-month field geological survey and fossil excavations were conducted on the fossil sites of Jinpen Cave. It was found that artificial stone products and mammalian fossils co-existed and more than 10 artificial artifacts and 3,000 mammalian fossils were collected. Preliminary find out the strata of this place, the distribution of fossil species and their times. After preliminary study, the animal fossils unearthed in Jinpen Cave can be divided into 8 orders, 18 families and 23 genera and 27 species of mammals; this fauna is the closest to the fauna of Longtan Cave in He County, followed by the The fauna is closer and its survival time is likely to be the late Mid-Pleistocene. The discovery of the Paleolithic Paleolithic site further proves the potential of discovering sites of prehistoric human activity in caves and fissures in limestone areas of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
