2001年是中国女篮重新崛起的一年,痛失后再次捧起的亚锦赛冠军让久被遗忘的中国女篮重新进入大家的视线;2002年在中国篮协工作会议上,中国篮协特意强调了商业赛事的成功运作为中国女篮热身练兵起到的不可或缺的作用;2003年3月3日,北京亚特拉斯体育文化发展走上前台,签约成为中国女篮独家商业推广商;2003年,中国女篮参加的商业比赛数量为历年来最多的一次;2004年1月,中国女篮夺得亚锦赛冠军。
