理学在北宋,惟伊洛程门有其传。及至南宋,所谓理学传宗,同时亦即是伊洛传宗。朱子亦从此传统来。但至朱子,乃始推尊濂溪,奉为理学开山,确认濂溪之学乃二程所自出。吕希哲原明尝谓二程初从濂溪游,后青出于蓝。原明亲受业于伊川之门下。其孙本中居仁亦曰:二程始从茂叔,后更自光大。居仁又曾从游于杨时龟山游酢定夫尹焯和靖之门,三人皆程门弟子。然则谓二程学不从濂溪出,必乃程氏之门自言之。二程既只称濂溪为茂叔,未有先生之呼,而游定夫乃称周茂叔穷禅客,此五字并见于《程氏遗书》卷六。
