因纽特是北极原住民中分布地域最广的民族,他们生活在俄罗斯的楚科奇半岛、美国的阿拉斯加、加拿大北部、格陵兰岛东南沿海等广大地区。现在因纽特人总数大约有21万人。根据语言、环境、文化等因素,我们可以将因纽特人分成两支:第一支是尤皮克,生活在阿拉斯加西南部沿海、努尼瓦克和圣劳伦斯岛以及楚科奇半岛东南部的狭小地带,现在大约有3.8万人,其中2.5万人生活在阿拉斯加,1.3万人
