金沙江上乌东德、白鹤滩水电站,如果采用超大型的100万kW机组来替代当前世界最大的国产化70万和80万kW机组,工程的静态投资将节省约11亿元。为了研制百万机组,在完成技术规范制定、总体设计、主要性能参数优化、模型水力试验、全空冷通风试验、绝缘试验、电磁模型试验、推力轴承试验等重大科研项目以后,创新开发了许多核心技术,并且已在世界最大机组上成功应用,即将用于100万kW机组上。它标志着我国水电重大装备制造业跨入自主设计、制造超世界水平最大水电机组的新时代。
