Recent years,with the surge of a large number of comprehensive universities and art students, art education towards comprehensive universities has become a conspicuous phenomenon and hot issue in China’s advanced education. Taking the urban public artistic talents as an example, the paper propose that comprehensive universities should take their traditional customs and advantages, use projects as ties to improve talents’ engineering practically ability, and reinforce various and engineering teacher team construction, so that they can cultivate compound urban public art and design talents with innovative, practical, designed ability, satisfying society’s needs.
