This article compares a drama with a novel mainly because of the same content in different forms. There is a great similarity between the love stories in The Peony Pavilion and Strange Stories in a Lover Studio. The development of romance is in unrealistic circumstances, the former is achieved through dreams and ghosts, and the latter are mostly human and fox ghosts charm. To a large extent, both works have affirmed and described “desire ” and “color ”. In addition, there are a lot of portrayals on women, such as “The Peony Pavilion”, where many of the women in the “Strange Tales of a Lonely Studio” are colorful and their common point is that they will actively seek emotions and desires. By digging these common features, one can glimpse into the wave of the late Ming and early Qing dynasties and cause more people to think more about marriage, human nature, and women.
