The Nishikawa River flows through the center of Okayama from south to north. In Green Road Park, a water pavilion, lattice walls, water jets, pond marshes, waterfalls, etc. are set in a 2.4-kilometer section along the river basin. The courtyard-style space extends curvingly into the city. The project was implemented in three phases, and in the end, Okayama City won the first Minister of the Ministry of Construction for the “Green City Award”. The Nishikawa River was developed during the period of 1601-1614 when Okayama Castle was built to divide the castle town and the pastoral area. Initially used as drinking water and domestic water, a new water supply system was subsequently constructed. The river water was used only for irrigation, and a wash field (a place for washing and brushing utensils) was set up along the river and used as fishing.
