Fifteen years ago, Modular Mining Systems Inc. began developing and implementing the DIS-PATCH system for open pit mine transport optimization. To date, more than 40 such systems are in operation throughout the world. Careful application of a so-called “tight” approach to system design and implementation makes it easy to expand functionality in the future, otherwise the entire system must be redesigned to expand functionality. White, executive vice president of module companies and Zoschke, vice president of engineering, presented at the Wyoming Mining Engineers Symposium on Mining Transportation in March this year that explored the new facilities that make up the future of mines, New systems and subsystems. Recently, the input information of car and power shovel drivers provided the required timed deployment data for optimal positioning. Now, a universal high-speed round robin loop controller is added and an infrared transponder is added to each of the mining equipment to make these important functions automatic. GPS satellite subsystems have also been added to improve device positioning.
