现代内分泌学的发展使人们了解了甾体激素和多肽激素在生殖系统中的重要作用,并由此派生出一门内分泌学的新分支学科——生殖内分泌学。理论上的发现孕育着实践中的应用,不久,激素在节育技术及不育症诊断与治疗中的应用研究也随之开展起来了。自五十年代初Pincus与张明觉发明第一代口服避孕药至今已经历了30年,在这一期间激素避孕的研究蓬勃开展并取得了不少新的成果。为了及时交流该领域研究的新信息和开展国际协作研究,美、英、意、瑞典、瑞士、荷兰、西德、比利时等十几个国家的学者组织了一个“国际甾体激素研究组”,定期召开学术讨论会。1981年12月2—4日该组织(International StudyGroup for Steroid Hormones)在罗马举行第10次学术会议,会议期间广泛讨论了卵巢激素研究的新进展、
