The relationship between Zhang Xun and the reform movement is more objective and fair with “jaundice”, that is, on the one hand, it sympathizes with others and even supports or directly intervenes in the reform activities; on the other hand, it maintains a certain distance from the reformist side. The formation of this complex historical phenomenon is due to Zhang’s class status and ideological status and his disagreements with the reformists on some points of view. The external cause is the restriction of several active political parties at the time. These factions, such as the Weng Tung Wo Empire Party, Zhang Zhidong, Liu Kunyi’s Westernization School, Zhang Jian and they have more common characteristics, they are rooted in feudalism and tend to capitalism, faithful to the traditional base camp But with the spirit of reform, they are different from the reformists. Zhang’s “hesitation” is conducive to the rise of the beginning of the reform movement, but not conducive to the further development of the reform movement
