自从第二次世界大战以来,美国缺少一本以新一代人观点所编撰的美国文学史,哥伦比亚大学出版社为弥补这一缺陷,约请了六十六位作家撰述了一本美国文学史。这是部煌煌巨著,共有一千二百余页,但既非编年史,亦非作家论,是二者掺和在一起的别开生面的著作,撰稿者观点不同,甚至大相径庭,贵于各抒己见,畅所欲言,是这本巨著的特色。但是书价奇贵,非我辈所能问津,只能看看《纽约时报书评周刊》的评介文章,稍慰饥渴而已。
Since the Second World War, the United States lacks a history of American literature compiled by a new generation of viewpoints. To make up for this flaw, Columbia University Press invited 66 writers to write a history of American literature. This is a brilliant book of the Ministry of Huang Huang, a total of more than 1200 pages, but neither a chronicle nor a writer’s argument, is a combination of the two uncomparable works, contributors point of view is different, even more than each express their opinions, Speak freely, is the characteristics of this masterpiece. However, the price of books is too expensive, not my generation can care about, can only look at the “New York Times Book Review Weekly” review article, somewhat relieved hunger only.
