It is estimated that the LAN market in the 1990s maintained a sustained and rapid growth. In addition, LAN data transmission capacity and transmission speed is also expected to be significantly improved. These trends will prompt people to adopt media that offers higher bandwidth - optical fiber. Glass fiber, a traditional network construction medium, has the disadvantage of high component and installation costs, which hinders widespread use. While plastic optical fiber has all the advantages of glass fiber (such as bandwidth and no radiation or electromagnetic radiation), but also has the advantages of low cost and easy installation. This article describes the connection system for plastic optical fiber LANs; it also explores the general design principles; provides performance data and highlights the system’s easy-to-use advantages.
