Four years ago, Accufiber Corporation of the United States successfully developed a high temperature optical fiber thermometer, which can be used to measure the temperature of the turbine gas that is difficult to measure. Dils tested the thermometer’s accuracy and measurement range. He also proposed other uses of the thermometer, such as measuring the temperature inside the combustion chamber of an automobile engine, from which the efficiency of the engine can be verified. The thermometer uses a sapphire optical fiber rod whose end is coated with a thin film of an oxide of iridium or platinum or lead to form a blackbody cavity. When this black body cavity is placed in high temperature fluid, it spoke
