Mills have tried to reduce production costs, improve economic efficiency and enhance competitiveness by increasing the content of calcium carbonate and waste paper in neutral papermaking and installing the latest high-efficiency paper machines. However, these efforts have led to changes in papermaking conditions: higher pH, temperature and conductivity, and lower one-way retention rates. In other words, these changes have become the main factor that interferes with the effectiveness of dry-strength agents. This article describes the properties of dry strength agents that can be used under neutral papermaking conditions.
