雅西高速公路全长240公里,海拔最低630米,最高2440米,整条高速公路线展布在崇山峻岭之间,蜿蜒盘旋,高架凌空,全线有桥梁270座;隧道25座,桥隧比高达55%,被国内外专家学者公认为国内乃至全世界工程难度最大、科技含量最高的山区高速公路之一,故被称作“天梯高速”、“云端上的高速公路”。雅西高速地形复杂、气候恶劣,高架桥,特长隧道和连续大长坡的组合大大增加了行车的复杂性,对车辆的行车安全和制动能力是个巨大的挑战。目前山区行驶卡车普遍使用的是没有办法的土办法-
