Prototype theory in cognitive linguistics is a structured, prolific and highly explanatory dialectical cognitive theory. Prototypes in literature are an all-encompassing, eternal, abstract concept of diverse forms. By comparing and analyzing the definition, development and nature of the two, we find that though the connotative meaning of the prototype category theory is not as rich as the prototype meaning in literature, the theoretical basis and cognitive mechanism of the two are the same. Moreover, the theory of prototype category not only expands the scope of prototype research in theory, but also reveals the generation process of prototype meaning at the cognitive level and also analyzes the reasons why the prototype is an indispensable gem in the world literature database at the cultural level.
