环丙烷和环氧乙烷都易与AB试剂发生反应。其反应式分别可写成: CH_2—CH_2+AB—→ACH_2CH_2CH_2B / CH_2其中AB可为X_2、HX等亲电试剂。 CH_2—CH_2+AB—→AOCH_2CH_2B / O其中AB可为H_2O、ROH、RMgX等亲核试剂。 形式上两类反应极其相似,即都是一分子三元环化合物与另一分子试剂反应生成一种化合物的加成反应。但第一类反应是亲电试剂对三元环化合物的亲电加成反应;第二类反应是亲核试剂对三元环化合物的亲核取代反应。 第一类反应其反应历程是:
