The weak coupling between two superconductors can exhibit the Josephson effect and can be used as a detector and mixer with high sensitivity to electromagnetic radiation. The focus of this article is on the millimeter and submillimeter waveforms, since although such devices work well in the lower frequency bands, it is worth noting that there is a particularly wide range of applications in this band. One aspect of weak coupling applications is the use of inherent oscillators and mixers. This article analyzes such samples and reviews some of the notable experiments.
