“教育要面向现代化,面向世界,面向未来”是邓小平战略思维在中国教育改革和发展领域中的具体体现。当前国际国内形势复杂多变,“三个面向”作为指引思想政治教育改革和创新的根本思想和方法论,揭示了思想政治教育明确的目的性、全面的开放性、敏锐的前瞻性和深刻的系统性,对实现思想政治教育的理念、机制、手段和方法的现代性转型具有重要意义。以“三个面向”为指导创新思想政治教育理念,需要明确现代思想政治教育的政治性与人本性双重目的,确立施教者与受教者双向主体,把握灌输式与体验式双重范式;创新思想政治教育机制,需要实现管理机制、保障机制、激励机制和评价机制的再创新;创新思想政治教育的手段和方法,需要施教者善于老方法新用,敏于新方法熟用,巧于诸方法混用。
