近二十年来,运动器材的设计者和制造商们正在对运动器材所使用的原材料进行不断地研制探索工作。正朝着强度大,重量轻而又经久耐用的方向发展。这些运动器材从网球球拍、高尔夫球棒杆到自行车架、钓鱼鱼秆,都已进入革新时代。受材料工艺发展的影响,步子向前迈得最大的首先是球拍制作了。尤其是网球球拍,近年来发展得如此迅速,以至连其大小与结构都已脱胎换骨。威尔威体育用品公司推出的以石墨——玻璃纤维为材料的杰克·克雷默·斯塔弗网球拍(Jack Kramer Staff racket)就是最明显的例子。十年前风行的大号球拍现已大大让位于中号球拍(新制克雷默拍即为中号拍)。在温布尔顿网球赛及大众网球场上,人们见到的都是以石墨或石墨合成材料制成的球拍。
For nearly two decades, designers and manufacturers of sports equipment are continually researching and developing raw materials used in sports equipment.
