合理的工作面长度是指适应于一定的矿山地质条件及技术组织水平从而使采矿工作获得最好的技术经济指标的工作面长度。自1953年来,开滦各矿回采工作面平均长度虽有显著的增长(见表1),但就长度仍然是落后于矿山技术水平及机械化程度增长的速度。在1955年上半年,开滦有约70%的煤是自倾斜及缓斜一次采全厚回采工作面中采出的(见表2),因之合理的决定出这些回采工作面的长度具有着深切的国民经济意义。
