After more than 30 years of development, the country is now considering moving some major energy industries from the east to the midwest. Not long ago, the State Council put forward five measures to promote the westward movement of the eastern industries. Two of them are energy-related, including hydropower, wind power and photovoltaic power generation. China’s energy consumption ranks among the best in all countries in the world, but the energy structure has long been worrying. In the current energy mix, raw coal is still at a standstill, accounting for 75% of total energy demand. Among all other energy sources, crude oil accounts for 8.9% and natural gas accounts for 4.6%. The total renewable energy resources such as hydropower, wind power and nuclear power account for only 11.5% of the total demand.
