On February 13,1986,a woman,aged 52,first sought treatment for shoulder pain she’d hadfor more than one year.Starting in December 1984,apparently aftera cold,she had begun to experience pain aroundher right shoulder.The pain worsened at night.Difficulty in shoulder movement,local stiffnessand local intolerance to cold were also noted.Feb.1985,she had begun to have difficulty rais-ing her right arm;with great effort she couldbarely manage to touch her head with righthand.The pain became more and more severeand extended to the lateral side of her upper armand the anterior aspect of the proximal end ofher lower arm.A certain hospital diagnosed heras having periarthritis.No medication,moderndrugs or Chinese herbs,produced any effects.
